18% already use apps to track their diet

Whether you are a competitive athlete, trying to lose weight or just want to feel good about what you are consuming, health and diet are probably topics that have crossed your mind lately.

According to The International Food Information Council’s 2020 Food & Health Survey, up to 54% of consumers (of which 63% is over the age of 50) care more about their diet choices in 2020 than they did in 2010. Plenty of apps are available to help consumers with this.

However, this same survey shows that only 18% of Americans use such apps to track their diet, exercise and/or overall health. Whereas 39% of them followed a specific eating pattern or diet over the last year.

The majority of dieting apps aren’t really the right fit to most. People experience a lack of automation within these apps, until the point that they  simply run out of patience and stop using it.

Tracking your intake is, however, an important factor to not only regulate your weight, but also to see which nutrients you should take more or less of.

We want to make starting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle easier.

Coming up with refreshing recipes, knowing what ingredients to buy, keeping track of what you’re eating and making sure you consume the right foods seem to be the core elements of a healthy diet. However, they also tend to take up a lot of your time and energy. Hence, people seek tools to help them overcome these struggles of maintaining that healthy diet.

Plenty of apps are available to track nutrition, however, most of them still require their users to manually enter what they’re eating. This can result in impatience and dissatisfaction, both with the app, but also with themselves, as the mission of a healthier diet once again did not work out.

Smart fridges have been on the market quite some time now and they can be quite a good addition to smart homes for some. They are quite well developed nowadays and can be a useful tool in tracking the foods you consume, among many other features. The downside of including all these features in a fridge is that the user would have to buy a whole new fridge. If the old fridge is still functioning properly, buying a new one only for the sake of your diet, does not seem like the best solution.

We want to make choosing healthier options easier, not harder or more expensive. It shouldn’t cost loads of time, effort, or money, because then it wouldn’t be sustainable in the long haul.

Uscale wants to step in where the current dietary apps and/or smart fridges are not the preferred options. We want to make it easy to eat healthy and happily.
